For
a bit of time now, I have been discussing with Alex Lindsay founder
at Pixel corps http://www.pixelcorps.com,
our first time meeting was when he came over to London for the
salesforce.com event and the his company saw to the event live
streaming and recording and as usual he took the opportunity to meet
with PXC members in London area, I met with him and ended up working
with him on the same event where I was manning the live recording of
the event, it was my first time using the H.264 live stream recording
hardware/software, it was an experience and we recorded 100% success.
However, not only did we work together, we also found a common ground
and got talking about CG and animation in African leading us to
discuss Animation West Africa now known as AWA Foundation, there and
then I could see his passion for development work in the Media and CG
in industry in Africa. Of course you will alwaysfind non Africans who
claim to have the passion for Africa and certainly anyone may say
anything, however I saw that he said it differently and with more
willingness, and even if he had to move over from US to live in an
African nation with his family according to him (but why would anyone
want to do that I asked myself)
On
his next visit to London, I was on ground to meet with him once again
and this time we had more time to talk about the future and the
possibilities, then I was able to gather from him about Rwanda, the
African nationthat got torn apart by one of the most terrible
genocide in history where in just 3 months it is reported that an
estimated 800,000 people were massacred back in 1994... ermm now that
is really shocking to imagine.
Well,
this dark period in Rwanda history came and thankfully is gone now
however barely 20 years after this terrible periods the country is
moving in the opposite and positive direction to what they were known
for. Alex tells me of why he is thinking of the big step, at the
moment Rwanda is set to become the technology hub of Africa, with
fibre optic cables transmitting up to about 10mbps internet speed at
least said to have been laid to every single locality in the country,
the government is working with Alex company in the move set up this
technology and digital training hub, Alex and his American partner
who lives and spends most of his times in Rwanda where he is building
up the training facility and system from where young enthusiasts are
built into professionals in a couple of months via highly
standardized training process and releasing them back into the system
to build others after them and doing this they hope to trigger off
the spread of good knowledge directly and indirectly in African as a
whole plus eventually working with these people to take on the
perceived developed media industry, yeah I know this seem a bit far
fetched but its is not and given the next 2 years according to Alex,
this will become a reality.
I
could go on to talk about other things we discussed but that's not be
necessary since it would bore you downwith so many unnecessary
details , however pls do have a look at this link I found this link
on his Google+ page
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/world_now/2012/02/how-did-rwanda-cut-poverty-so-much.html,
it tells more abut the positive things from Rwanda but in a different
way.
Please
enjoy the read and let me know what you think.
Cheers
